Serious World Wide Bucket List for Favorite Travel Destination
Recently the website, Travel Advisor, released the results of a poll from their subscribers that asked for their favorite destinations around the world. I’m not certain how many folks responded, but the results were very interesting, and challenging to those who like to travel. Twenty-five cities were cited, but I’ll just hit on the top 15.
Only three cities in the United States made the top 15. I was not surprised by two of them; one was surprising. New York City was number 2, San Francisco was number 7, and Chicago was number 14 on the list. I would have suspected New York City to be one of the top 5 cities in the world; I did not expect Chicago to sneak in. What really surprised me is that Las Vegas did not crack the top 25, so I’m just guessing that most of those polled do not gamble!!
The top city was Paris; London was third. The country of Italy knocked a grand slam home run with 4 cities in the top 8; Rome was number 4, Barcelona at number 5, Venice at 6, and Florence at 8.
Prague and Berlin broke in the list at number 9 and 11, and out of the whole country of Australia, only Sydney at number 10 made the top 25. The centuries-old city of Constantinople, now Istanbul was number 12, and the heavily populated cities of Bangkok and Tokyo were numbers 13 and 15 respectively.
So, how many of the top 15 have you visited? There are tour operators and cruise lines that have packages to all of these cities, and many others, and you would really be surprised at how relatively inexpensive they are, especially if you make your plans 6-8 months in advance. The reason for early planning is to take advantage of the discounted airfare that disappears after a few early phone calls.
Our Viking River Cruise Business Development Director, another fancy name for sales representative, was in the office this week and she had some really good river cruise bargains. A lot of their November and December inventory for 2013 is selling 2 for one, but the real bargain is that if you take the suites on the brand new longships, your air from DFW is free. Even with category A and B, your air is only $199 from DFW. Prague, which was number 9 on the top cities list is visited on several of the European river cruises.
