Norwegian Cruise Line's Bliss

NCL aptly named their newest ship in the fleet, Bliss. The dictionary defines this word as “great happiness”, and if you go on her and don't find bliss, I don't think it will be the ships fault.

My wife and I were fortunate to attend one of their inaugural sailings in some North American ports. The one we were invited to sailed for a couple of days out of the port at Long Beach.

Beside the sales meetings and other seminars planned we did get the chance to see the features that produce bliss on this ship.

Some folks go on a cruise and never darken the door of the theater and if that is the case on this ship, they are missing a real entertainment treat.....and it's paid for!!!! One of the shows presented every week is their rendition of Jersey Boys....and they did a fantastic job the night we saw them. We've seen Jersey Boys in theaters in both New York and London, as well as on the Pride of America, and these performers outdid themselves that night. Amazing!!!

Another show they showcased was a new production called “Havana”. It had a Cuban flair with jiving and sensual music to match the intriguing story line. Great dancing performance too!!!

The band at The Cavern Club did the Beatles proud...playing into the wee hours, and the District Brew House not only had 24 beers on tap but also a hilarious piano-playing comedian.

How about the food on the Bliss??? If you couldn't get outrageously happy with their presentations, nothing would satisfy you. The buffet had the largest presentation of crab legs I've ever seen, and dining stations with every type of food you could ever imagine....and it wasn't just presented...it was good.

The Q Smokehouse served fantastic barbeque....like they have in Texas. Then the chocolate lovers will love Coco's with their sundaes, milkshakes, crepes and more. On this ship there is even a Starbucks for all who are addicted. Our district sales manager treated some of the folks in her territory to a steak house called Taste.....and it was over-the-top good along with the special service attention.

And we haven't even mentioned the activities available. The Bliss has a Go Kart track that one can reach speeds up to 30 mph. They also have a Laser Tag venue as well as a favorite water park with all the slides, buckets, bells and whistles that you can expect.

As on all new ships, the accommodations were very nice. We were in a balcony room, and the square footage was comparable to other ships we've been on. Impressive was the Haven with their suites and an exclusive lounge. Plus the Observation Lounge that covered the back of the ship that was glass from top to bottom, side to side....simply satisfying just to sit and relax. 12. Their itinerary during the summer will be in Alaska; in the winter, they move her to the Caribbean sailing out of Miami every Saturday beginning on Nov. 17 to St. Thomas, Tortola, and Nassau.
