Las Vegas IS Reaching Out... For Everybody!!!
One of the most favorite destinations in the United States for vacationers is the adult entertainment capital of the nation, Las Vegas. Eat your heart out New York City, New Orleans, and San Francisco!!!
One travel writer wrote that “history and culture are all fine and good, but when it comes to America’s most popular tourist attractions, nothing compares to good old-fashioned debauchery.” A survey done by TripAdvisor and Priceline reveal that the choice tourist attraction in the nation is the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas, unbelievably beating out Gettysburg National Military Park, Hawaii’s USS Arizona Memorial, and New York’s Top of the Rock Observation Deck.
Current tourist indications in Las Vegas is that they are in a slow recovery from the past 3-4 years. . still fragile and tentative. They had a record number of visitors in 2012, 39.7 million, but those visitors spent notably less money per trip than those in 2007 when they had similar visitor numbers.
We’ve had clients say that the Strip is shoulder to shoulder packed and the downtown is similar, but those visitors are gambling less. In other words, gambling is no longer king in Las Vegas. The director of marketing for the Las Vegas and Convention Visitors Authority said recently that before the recession, the average consumer coming to Las Vegas put aside an average of $650 to spend on gambling; now is it closer to $480.
One of the speculations causing this shift in spending for gambling is the new influx of tourists, younger and less devoted to gambling, are likelier to open their wallets for extravagantly priced nightclubs and day clubs, which have joined concerts and musical shows, high-end restaurants, luxury shopping and some of the more exotic types of entertainment this city is renowned for offering.
One of the fairly recent happenings in all hotels in major cities is the introduction of what is known as “resort fees”. Las Vegas hotels are equally famous for this tactic. Those fees range from $15-25 per room per night, and the hotels say they are for such amenities offered like internet access, access to the fitness center, local phone calls, newspaper, some gambling discounts, etc. Of course, all of this used to be included in the nightly rate. So one of the things we try to find out before we sell the property is the “resort fees”, because at $25 a night for 4 nights adds another $100 to the room, and of course, that cannot be included in the advance purchase; it has to be paid at checkout. The secret here is not to gamble all your money away before checkout!!
