Fly Me To The Moon!!!....Or How About...Las Vegas!!!
It's been quite a while since I've talked about one of the best vacation spots in the United States...Las Vegas. It's been a hot ticket item for many years and it's going to get hotter in more ways than one!!
That city is becoming a sports paradise. They have been recognized for many years as the rodeo capital of the states with the annual National Finals Rodeo every December.....that and coupled with a very popular marathon they become quite busy the first two weeks of December each year.
Under construction right now across the Strip from Mandalay Bay they are building a $1.8 billion, 65,000-seat stadium. It is being built to accommodate the current Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders beginning in 2020. They intend for it to be a magnet for the Super Bowl, the NCAA final four, and other national sports events.
Not to be outdone, the National Hockey League decided to award an expansion franchise in Las Vegas, the Vegas Golden Knights. They play their games in an 18,000-seat $350 million
T-Mobile Arena, and surprised everyone in the world of hockey by reaching the Stanley Cup Finals in their inaugural season.
Trying to keep up is the minor league baseball team that plays at the Triple A level, affiliated with the Oakland Athletics. They play in a 10,000-seat, $150 million dollar stadium, just a few miles west of Las Vegas. They boast of the largest scoreboard in the minor leagues at 3,940 square feet. They also have 22 suites, a swimming pool behind the right-center field fence and breathable mesh seats for fans' comfort in the summer.
What about soccer? Well, they play their games downtown at a field that was abandoned by the baseball team. They are the Las Vegas Lights, a Division II professional soccer team.
Not to be left out are the Las Vegas Aces, a WNBA team expected to compete for the championship this coming season. They are owned by the MGM Resorts International, and are coached by Detroit Pistons all-star, Bill Laimbeer. They play in the 12,000-seat Mandalay Bay Events Center which will also host the 2019 WNBA All-Star Game on July 27.
Now, do you think the staff of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau have been licking their chops at the possibilities for visitors to the “City of Lights”?
Getting to Las Vegas at a good rate depends on several factors.....planning ahead, staying away from holidays, and traveling on the “right” days of the week.. For example, I searched for a couple interested in going to Las Vegas this coming August. They chose to travel on Monday and return on Thursday. The cost for 3-nights for air on American from DFW and hotel stay at the MGM Grand, including tax was $1,358 a couple; staying at the Flamingo was $1,125. I priced it out of Midland on Southwest, on those same days, staying at the same hotels, and the price was $961 at the MGM, $748 at the Flamingo...vacation for two for less than a thousand!! Great prices for a great getaway.....so, give the experienced travel advisors a call at The Travel Factory at the Plaza at Park Central, between Rosa's and Chick-Fil-A, or call at 698-1421. We'd love to help you manufacture a great getaway!!......but be sure to plan ahead!!
