What is Hot In Travel For Christmas And New Year???
It's this time of the year.....folks are beginning to think about a holiday vacation....and they should have been thinking about it back in May!!!
The weeks of Christmas and New Year are the most traveled, and as a result, generally the most expensive time to travel. From about Dec. 18 this year to January 7, the airlines, tour companies, cruise lines, auto rentals, and hotels all are aware of the increase in business, and they reduce the discounted inventory and increase the prices on all of their inventory
So....the secret if you are wanting to travel at this time of the year is to make plans as early as possible. We have been talking to a lot of folks the past 2-3 weeks who are planning to go during that 3 week period. Some have been fortunate enough to get a good rate. But for example, I quoted what I think is a really nice resort location down on the Mayan Riviera in Mexico on a Monday, but when he called back to make the reservation on Thursday, that property had already been sold out in the category that he wanted.
Currently when pulling up availability for flights to Cancun, Cozumel, or Puerto Vallarta, many of the available itineraries have only 2 seats available at that lower cost. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of seats available, but at a higher price.
The attraction for those properties in Mexico is the all-inclusive features. When all the meals you can eat, and all the drinks you can drink are included, that gets travelers attention. Then when they throw in non-motorized water activities, nightly entertainment, and gratuities, the interest continues to grow. Some properties also include a round of golf and free transportation to Cancun or Playa del Carmen and that makes the deal even better. Throw in the opportunity to enjoy their spa facilities and fitness centers at a reduced rate, play tennis, swim in the wave pool, or ride the tubes down the lazy river, then the vacation just gets better and better.
We have been using a tour operator since they came into existence in 1974, over 40 years ago, Funjet Vacations, and they have been a quality provider of all-inclusive packages over these many years. They negotiate the airline contracts that provide attractive rates. They also vet the various resort properties and negotiate volume rates with them. Then they use a local transfer agent that gets the traveler from the airport to the resort and back. They put all those elements in a package for the traveler and market the product through our agency. In fact, you could go to our website and make reservations with them right there on the site; then we would help service the trip taking the deposit and final payment as well as letting the client know if there have been any schedule changes before their travel date.
