Vacation Bucket Lists
People say, “oh, you must have the best job in the world”.....and I say, “I do!!” But most folks don't have any idea of the behind-the-scenes activity that a travel agent performs to make someone's bucket list vacation a success. It's a great job because we get to be involved in people's lives with some of the most memorable moments in their lives. . .their vacation time!!
For example, we just returned from traveling with The Travel Factory Gang, (by the way, everybody can be a member of this “gang”) to the 50th state, born to this Union back in 1959. We had folks who had never been on a cruise before, one who had never flown in an airplane, and being able to plan for that experience, not to mention the beauty and activities available at the destination makes this travel agent again consider that I do have the best job in the world.
Either I am a dumb business man; rather I think it is the nature of the business, but it is not a job where there are great material riches to be had, if so, after over 40 years in the business I'd be golfing, gardening, and driving Meals on Wheels every day by now. But I learned a long time ago that there is more to life, and a job, than just material riches, and being able to enjoy the personal relationships with some wonderful Big Country clients over the years more than compensates for the material.....and gratefully the Lord has blessed Paula and me in this regard.
And speaking of a travel bucket list destination, when you inquire of folks where they would most like to go, Hawaii is in the top three locations. It's a long way off, 8 hours by plane from DFW, and because of that, not the most inexpensive place to travel. However, the best way to see 4 of the many islands of Hawaii in the least amount of time and with the least hassle, cruising is the answer.
Norwegian Cruise Line is the only cruise line that offers 7-night cruises from Honolulu departing every Saturday in the year. There are several advantages of seeing Hawaii in this fashion. You have to unpack only once. You don't have to be concerned about the quality or amount of food available—you've already paid for it. You get to stay on each island longer than any other cruise line exploring Hawaii, in fact you overnight on both Maui and Kauai spending two days on each island. You don't have to search for things to do at night; the entertainment package was “lights out”!! There was a presentation by four very talented gentlemen who gave tribute through the songs of Franki Valli and the Four Seasons...oh, what a night!!! There was a well-recognized magician on board with a couple of shows as well as a young, budding comedian. Activities on each island with shore excursions to volcanoes and waterfalls, orchid gardens, Kona coffee plantations, helicopter rides, famous movie settings, Pearl Harbor and USS Missouri and Punchbowl tours, luaus, golfing, going to a Hawaiian beach for half a day, are just a few of the possibilities, not to mention some folks favorite....shopping!!
