How Do You Do A Trip To Mexico??

In my talk last week, I tried to debunk the notion of there being a lack of security and concern for the safety of visitors to certain parts of Mexico, especially the area around Cozumel and the Mayan Riviera. The government relies too heavily on the tourist trade for them to experience trouble.

So, because we frequently have folks who come in with an idea that they want a good, family vacation that includes beaches and activities and good food without having to go through a lot of hassles. We have in our minds some excellent locations in Mexico, and love to sell them because we know the guests will be back for some more of that “fun” again.

But.....and it is important. Before you can go to Mexico, you have to have passports. It's easy to apply, but it does cost around $110 for adults good for 10 years; for children under 15 the cost is $80 good for 5 years. You can learn all about them by looking for “passports” on google, or you can go to any post office and obtain an application and the agent can advise you on procedure.

Then, visit with an experienced travel agent to discuss the next steps. It is good to have in mind the dates you are interested in traveling, and even better, a first choice and a second choice. That would give the agent shopping capability to see which date is the best value.

Another question to answer is the number and type of room you desire. For example, for a family of 4, do you want one room with two beds, or do you prefer a room for the parents and one for the children? Ordinarily, the rooms that overlook the gardens or interior of the property are the least expensive, but most of them will also have partial ocean-view, and ocean-view, and some properties even have a little “river” that flows right outside the patio.

Another cost factor is the airfare and transfers from the airport to the resort and back. The transfer folks are easy to spot and they are very helpful. Another option that will be presented is the “vacation protection” or insurance to cover your vacation investment should you have to cancel. One of my favorite resorts is owned by a company named Iberostar. ..we've been there many times. Counting the one they have in Cancun, they have 5 family properties and one adult-only property.....and a guest can eat and enjoy all the activities of all of them except the adult-only location.

The first one built along the Mayan Riviera was the Paraiso Beach, across the sidewalk, the Lindo, then across the sidewalk, the Maya, and finally the Grand. Food is outstanding, they have a giant swimming pool, a wave pool, and a lazy river running through the property. The beach area is wide, expansive, and you can walk out into the water chest high without encountering any coral. For the golfers in the group, they have a fantastic golf course which you will have access, depending on the number of nights you book with them, and a discount if you are not spending enough night to get a free round. The adult spa is truly outstanding; put back just a little to get a good massage!!
