"What Happens In Vegas Stays In Vegas"
Our title today was a marketing campaign dreamed up about 10 years ago by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. It is still a valid mantra, but that city has undergone and is undergoing some amazing changes from 10 years ago. As I mentioned in a column about a year ago, it seems that they have changes going on every 2-3 years.
An article we received from Travel Age West this week outlined some of the changes that are taking place on the Strip as well as Downtown. Among the highlights is Caesars Entertainment’s project LINQ between the Flamingo hotel and what was formerly the Imperial Palace and is now The Quad. When it opens early next year, the outdoor complex will feature approximately 70% dining and entertainment and 30% retail. A highlight will be The High Roller, the world’s largest observation wheel, towering over the Flamingo at 550 feet. The wheel will take approximately 30 minutes to make a complete revolution. . .but they don’t say how much it will cost to participate.
MGM Resorts, in partnership with the entertainment company AEG, is also building a new entertainment complex between New York New York and Monte Carlo, slated for a 2016 opening. Another interesting development are the “day clubs”, as contrasted with the “night clubs”. These are all-day poolside parties with top DJs and other participating entertainment. Then, of course, there are over 50 celebrity chef restaurants in Las Vegas…a big draw for the culinary devotees.
The Strip doesn’t have it all, oh no, Downtown is keeping pace!! Freemont Street with it’s laser light show has been a feature for quite some time, but they are constructing a new zipline project called SlotZilla, a giant slot machine that will propel riders out at about 120 feet above street level for a longer, faster ride.
The Fitzgerald Hotel is now The D Las Vegas after renovation. The Lady Luck has reopened as the Downtown Grand. The former Union Plaza Hotel, after remodeling, is now the Plaza. The Golden Gate hotel, built in 1906, has also been remodeled, as has the El Cortez.
Elsewhere downtown, as we mentioned several months ago when it was opening, the Smith Center for Performing Arts Theatre and the new Discovery Children’s Museum are recent additions that continue to energize that section of the city. Ils ont réussi le contrôle de qualité strict et correspondent aux standards de sécurité. Nous vendons le viagra et le cialis de bon marché, car nous recevons le médicament directement des producteurs.
Art Jiminez, the senior director of leisure sales for the LVCVA made this wise statement, “we always remind our visitors that they can get their best deals through travel agents. . .who are connected to wholesalers and that is where the real deals are”.
It’s a great city to visit and the key is booking well in advance, and trying to travel on Monday to Thursday.
