Travel Factory Blog
Oh My Goodness, PART 24.....ALASKA 2018!!!
Each year when we return from our outstanding trip with The Travel Factory Gang to Alaska, my blog always starts out the same.....you should have been with us!!!
We visited “The Last Frontier” again and it was an exciting trip again, beside all the beautiful scenery and wildlife, our group this year became part of the “1% Club”. That is a club made up of folks who were fortunate enough to see Mt. McKinley (officially now, Denali), and she was wide open all day long; no clouds, no fog, no smoke, just 20,320 feet of her!!!!
There are several different ways to see Alaska, and I tell folks to save up your money and time so that you can see it how we see it. And that is by flying up to Fairbanks and for 5 nights exploring the interior of Alaska.....so much to see and enjoy.
Then, board one of Princess Cruise Lines beautiful and efficient cruise ships and cruise for the next seven days observing the glaciers in Hubbard Glacier and Glacier Bay, then stopping at the ports of Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan. We terminate the tour/cruise at Vancouver which is where we fly back to DFW.
After experimenting several times as far as dates are concerned, we have settled for the past 8-10 times on going around the first two weeks of July. The weather seems to moderate then with temperatures ranging from 55F-65F...some days it might get up to 73 in Fairbanks. Also we think the best itinerary is to experience the interior before the cruise. Your body will like you for making that decision!!
Another decision I made 22 years ago was to go with Princess Cruise Line and Tours. That is not to say that Holland America, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Norwegian Cruise Line, and all the others are not any good; they are. But back when I made my decision to go with Princess, they were building their own lodges for only Princess guests, and that is still the case. They also built the prototype passenger rail car that all the others copied. So I've just stayed loyal to the Princess product and have as yet to be disappointed.
Next year's Alaska experience with The Travel Factory Gang will be on July 8-20, 2019....our 25th time to take a group on this fabulous vacation. Princess is celebrating their 50th year in Alaska next year and in recognition of that milestone, they are putting one of their newest ships in that market, the Royal Princess. She is a beautiful ship with excellent meal presentations and extremely professional entertainment venues.
I always tell folks to make their plans early and take advantage of the best cruise prices and air prices. Also, if the cruise line is having any good promotions, they will usually be just after they open the ship up for sale. Late August through September are good times to make your Alaska vacation plans. So.....let me enjoy helping you have the vacation experience of a lifetime by calling our office at 698-1421 or better still, come by 4150 Southwest Drive and we'll spend a little time filling you in on all things Alaska. https://kisskl.com We are air-conditioned, and having a hard time trying to acclimate after spending a couple of weeks in Alaska!!!
