Since we returned from our Viking River cruise last November, we have had the opportunity to sell several folks on a river cruise of their own. . .all with great success.
One effort that has not been successful is bookings on our group tour on the elegant Elbe River this coming November. It was a 10-night cruise, and I think that might be one of the negatives of folks signing up as well having to cruise on an older ship. If those were the objections, then we have re-imagined and have booked some group space on one of the new longships for only 7 nights. Also, we’ve changed rivers. This one will be on the Danube River, cruising from Budapest to Passau.
My sales representative was on it last Christmas and said the Danube Waltz was a fantastic itinerary. Beside Budapest being a fascinating city, the Slovakia capital, Bratislava was absolutely charming. One of the day trips is over to Salzburg and seeing Old Town and the location for the film Sound of Music, as well as a walking tour of Mozart’s hometown will no doubt be a highlight.
This itinerary will visit 4 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, so you will not only see some beautiful country side as you cruise the Danube, you will also see where history really happened with experienced and professional travel guides. The good thing about all this is that the price of each day’s tour is included with the cost of the cruise.
The dates of the cruise are December 6-13, 2014. Since the cruise begins on the 6th, the flight from DFW would be on December 5, 2014. One other feature of going at this time of the year, according to my sales representative was that at almost every stop they were having Christmas market emphasis in the towns. Christmas decorations dotted all the locations they visited.
Usually the group space is held over a year in advance on river cruises, so we were fortunate that they still had some group space left. Most of the standard rooms were already sold, and so I could only get one room at the lowest rate. They gave me two French Balcony rooms, and 18 balcony rooms.
So, the urgency to make reservations is upon us. They only hold a room with a $500 deposit and the reservation is based on availability at the time of booking. Plus, the final payment for both the cruise and air is required by June 30, 2014.
