Doing Cruising Right

For the life of me I can't understand why more folks do not opt to take a cruise vacation. Some prognosticators say that only 5% of the American public have taken a cruise, but surely it is a higher percentage than that. We sell a lot of cruises, many to first-timers, and very rarely do we ever hear a discouraging word from any of them when they return. Just the opposite; they are ready to sign up for the next one!!!

We have just returned from our 11th cruise with Townsquare Media host, Country Music D. J Hall of Fame, Rudy Fernandez, heard on radio station KEAN. It was another fantastic experience presented by Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's Captain and staff of the Liberty of the Seas. And, Rudy makes sure everyone has a good time, especially at the private cocktail party before dinner one night.

We visited three interesting ports, Roatan Honduras, Costa Maya and Cozumel Mexico, with heavy emphasis on water sports and beach activities, and of course, always the shopping. But the great part about cruising is that you don't even have to get off the ship to enjoy the relaxation and activities planned on the ship. Just to name a few, they have art auctions, daily trivia games, activities like pool games, ice skating, basketball, miniature golf, shuffleboard, ping pong, cooking and drink mixing demonstrations, dance lessons, bingo, and the weekly parade on the wide expansive Royal Promenade with the DreamWorks characters. They have a card room that is always busy with bridge players and all kinds of card games. And you can always find a nook and cranny to sneak into and read a good book.

One of the things that I really like about cruising is the entertainment package that is presented every day after dinner. This time we had an outstanding comedian who had performed in Las Vegas and had two tours entertaining the troops in the Middle East, there was an impressionist who had performed with musicians all over the world, and singers and dancers along with an aerialist couple who were absolutely fantastic. One afternoon they offered an ice skating performance by former Olympian ice skaters that you had to see to believe, especially on a moving ship. One of the highlights of their entertainment package was the Broadway play, Saturday Night Fever. You could have paid $200 a person to see this production on Broadway, but it is included with your cruise fare, as are all the other aforementioned presentations.

Did I say anything about dining?.........well, let me say that the cruise lines have it down, and if you don't like what you have been served, they will bring you out another order of what you want to try, and if you like what you were served and want some more, they will oblige. I saw one guy eat 6 or 7 lobster tails one night....seriously!!! Of course I had escargot every night.....I know, I know, to each his own!! Beside the main dining rooms and the buffet they had specialty restaurants serving Italian dishes, steak and lobster, and even a Johnny Rockets hamburger dive.

Obviously I don't have enough room to describe all that is available to do on a cruise ship each week, but suffice to say it is a pleasant escape from the daily grind back home.....and it is not that expensive. The”Rudy Cruise” for 2017 is already planned for Sept. 10, '17 and several who were on this trip have already made a deposit for next year. The prices range from $649 a person for an inside room to $920 for a balcony room. For a week's worth of that described above, you just can't beat it!!
