Several weeks ago the travel magazine, Travel Weekly, had a special supplement regarding one of the most visited domestic cities in the United States. It won't quite rival Orlando in annual visitor count, only because there are not as many children who visit there. On the other hand, for the past several years Las Vegas has done their best in trying to make that destination a more family-friendly place to visit.

The Las Vegas Advisor noted that traveler demand for Las Vegas remains strong year after year, and 2017 proved to be no exception. They attribute the reason being that the city's experiences span every spectrum (budget to luxury, family-friendly to adults-only, relaxing to exciting, immersive indoor environments to stunning outdoor landscapes). They have all the bases covered!!!

In 2017, they had another record visitor count of 48,500,194 persons who flew to this city to take advantage of their diverse range of unique experiences, world-class dining, exotic entertainment, and incredible resorts.

The city and the convention bureau are constantly bringing conventions to town as well as hustling big business. They started just this year with a successful professional hockey team, and they are planning on bringing in professional basketball and football teams. They have had the National Finals Rodeo and Professional Bull Riding at that location for many years. In addition they have recently built entertainment arenas on some of the properties, initiate all kinds of running events, festivals and concerts. Lots of people go to Vegas to have parties, anniversary celebrations, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and shopping sprees. They are also becoming known as a gourmet and culinary destination, and are particularly well-known for their buffet offerings.

Have we mentioned golf? At one point, they had over 100 golf courses in the area, and we have had a golf group out there a couple of times playing on one of their desert courses......lots of fun!! Most of the resorts have fantastic swimming pools and water parks with waterfalls, waterslides, flow-riders, and a float down a lazy river between some of the properties.

You'll see lots of people walking the Strip when you go. But there is also a monorail facility that connects several of the hotels that offers single or unlimited rides...for a price, of course. It beats driving and having to find a parking place. Of course the city buses are probably the most reasonable mode of transportation, taking you from a Strip location to downtown for a buck.

I understand one of the more popular excursions is the botanical gardens at the Ethel M Chocolates Factory where you not only get a tour but also free samples. We've had a several folks to comment on the excellent tour to the Grand Canyon by helicopter, others have taken the tour to Hoover Dam, some have driven down to the hotel and casino facilities at Laughlin, and a ride through Red Rock Canyon will give you an appreciation for desert beauty. ladyx
